Quebec City Hotels

From , former About.com Guide

Looking for something a little different in a Quebec City hotel? Choices range from the bizarre Quebec Ice Hotel to the regal Chateau Frontenac. Historic small hotels round out the selection.

1. Fairmount Chateau Frontenac Hotel

The Fairmount Chateau Frontenac Hotel is THE place to stay in Quebec City. The 19th century castle sits squarely in the center of Old Quebec. It is the only 5 * hotel in the city. In 1943 during World War 11, it was the site of high level government meetings hosting such dignitaries as F.D. Roosevelt and Winston Churchill.

The Frontenac is one of the grand "chateau" style hotels designed by Bruce Price for the Canadian Pacific Railway Company to entice wealthy tourists to its trains.

2. Quebec Ice Hotel

The Quebec Ice Hotel is the only ice hotel in North America. For a true Quebec experience the hotel is worth a visit as nothing says Quebec City like ice and snow. If you don't want to brave the 23F degree rooms, then head to the N-Ice Lounge for a drink-served in ice glasses, of course.

3. Hilton Quebec

The Hilton Quebec is worth a mention because it's the only skyscraper hotel in Quebec City. The architecture may not appeal but the panoramic views of the Old City and the St. Lawrence River from 23 floors are well worth a visit. The Hilton Quebec also has some great off season deals and is centrally located just outside the Old City wall, near the parliament buildings.

5. Hotel Marie-Rollet

The Hotel Marie-Rollet in Old Quebec City, steps from the Frontenac is a true bargain with rooms averaging $90.00. This European - style hotel occupies a Victorian mansion dating from Canada's birthday in 1867. The cheerful Alain Turcotte runs the hotel that features small but comfortable rooms. Each one is tastefully decorated with original oil paintings and antiques so no two rooms are alike. The Marie-Rollet sees many repeat visitors. The rooftop patio is a hit.
