The Rosetta Stone French Course is a good investment for those traveling to French speaking areas and anyone who wants to get a good basis in the language for further study.
While at first glance it appears simple - especially for those who have some familiarity with the language, it's actually quite comprehensive and emphasizes the basic little subtleties that all beginners and others have got to acquire for further study.
At nearly $300.00 for the complete three level course, its not cheap (free downloads do not have the full lessons) but it can be set up for unlimited users and can be reset to add to the challenge.
- THE funnest way to learn French
- Very comprehensive
- Especially good for beginners
- Material easily retained
- Pricey
- Highly interactive computer based French language lessons
- Fun and addictive - can be used by all family members
- Challenging material
- Includes good quality headphones with attached microphone
- Compatible with a wide range of hardware and software
While there is a great deal of necessary repetition, the lessons never become boring - they actually become quite addictive like any good computer game - mixing speech, reading, grammar, listening and constant scoring of completed tasks. All parts taken together emphasize and build on new material so that listening, for example, helps with detecting and remembering subtle grammar rules and vice versa.
The course can be reset to add more repetition and review (the extended course) or shortened to focus on a particular aspect i.e. reading. For those with a more advanced knowledge of French, the course can be repeated with a higher microphone setting to really challenge the users' pronunciation.
