1. La Carte blanche
Chic, comfy, tasty... what's not to like about this east end eatery. Run by a charming couple from the center of France, Sophie runs the place with very helpful and knowledgeable wait staff while Andre does the cooking - great combo, great results.2. Milos Restaurant
Montreal's high end Greek favourite is popular with the well-heeled, sophisticated residents of Montreal's Mile End neighborhood. Fresh seafood is flown in daily from all over the world. Selections change often, depending on market conditions. Portions of lightly fried seafood, vegetables and cheese are large and sharing dishes is encouraged by the numerous wait staff who offer meticulous, professional service. Diners are made to feel very comfortable in elegant, airy surroundings complete with large bouguets of flowers. Even the private washroom cabinets including individual sinks offer a high degree of privacy.

3. Au Pied de Cochon Restaurant
"Pigs Feet" Restaurant alerts diners to the heavy emphasis on meat (particularly pork) which the restaurant is famous for. The chef is an avid game hunter who has little patience for vegetarians. Even so, his best side dish is the tomato tart served in an impossibly light, flaky pastry.
The noisy, convivial atmosphere is better suited to a night out with old friends than a first date. Reservations are highly recommended in this busy Plateau location.

4. L'Express
Another meat eaters favourite in the Plateau Mont Royal neighborhood, L'Express on rue St. Denis does a mean steak tartare and duck. The wine list offers good value too especially on the half bottles.
L'Express is a true French bistro where the young upwardly mobile Quebecois go to see and be seen. Despite the name and occasional attitude, L'Espress offers solid value in carefully prepared food that never disappoints.

5. Lele de Cuca Restaurant
A Plateau Mont Royal favourite since 1978, this small, dimly - lit, laid back establishment just off St. Laurent, has been serving Mexican and Brazilian dishes under various owners. Nine dishes are offered from each menu and include a soup or salad and dessert from 14.95. Diners are encouraged to bring their own wine or beer. All dishes and sides satisfy, but the Brazilian specialties are more interesting.
