Cosmodome Space Science Center and Space Camp

By

Overview:

One of only five such centres in the world, the Cosmodome Space Science Centre and Space Camp is both a space museum and a school for young, would be astronauts.

The Cosmodome Space Science Center and Space Camp contains an exact replica of the space shuttle, "Endeavor". Nearby, various simulators allow participants to leap long distances and experience a "real" moon walk.

Space Science Centre:

Over 60 interactive terminals, a real moon rock and a genuine Apollo mission space suit are just some of the displays found in the six sections of the Laval Space Science Center. Here visitors explore the solar system, experience satellite communication and trace the development of rocket models.

A state of the art theater suitable for classroom instruction, film screenings and corporate presentations shows a film featuring rare NASA footage and computer generated images that transports viewers 250,000 miles away from Earth.

Space Camp:

According to moon walking astronaut Alan Shepard, the Laval Space Camp is the best in the world. Since his speech launched the camp in 1994; adults, children, and students of all ages have experienced the Space Camp first hand.

Now, the space science exploration program is mainly for kids aged 9 to 15 who conduct space science experiments in group situations and study space theory.

The multi day programs include overnight accommodations for 268 participants in 34 rooms of eight replica space bunks and all meals. One room on each floor is reserved for disabled participants.

Special Five Hour Group Tour:

For groups where each member is at least 9 years old, 4' 2" tall and less than 220 pounds, the Space Science Centre offers an in depth tour with access to the space simulators.

Other Highlights of the visit include: A tour of the training room, the space shuttle Endeavour, the control centre, living quarters, scientific workshops and a screening of "Magnificent Desolation : Walking on the Moon".
