Auberge Alternative Montreal
The Bottom Line

The Auberge Alternative Montreal is an arts hostel catering to the bohemian set. The management and guests seem mature and laid back but visitors can rest assured that they are staying in a place that is well run, clean and fairly quiet.

Try to book the spacious yet private red room on the second floor - perfect for a couple at $55.00 double or single including breakfast. Dorm beds cost $20.00 including tax and breakfast is $5.00.

Visit the Auberge Alternative

Unlike other hostels, Auberge Alternative offers a wide range of activities such as art classes, slide nights and travel information sessions, communal meals, parties, haircuts, jam sessions, language exchange, meditation and scrap booking.

The hostel opened in 1996 as a grassroots movement dedicated to the alternative traveler interested in the arts. There is a strong tradition here of ecological practices, sustainable economics and cultural sharing. Everyone is invited to participate in the cultural life of the hostel.

The lack of television and vending machines reflects the values of the hostel owners who have built the dwelling from scratch with good value travel as their main focus.
