Guide Review - Le Nordik Nature Spa

Le Nordik Nature Spa in Old Chelsea, Quebec has been around since 2004 and is a mecca for residents of Gatineau and Ottawa, as it is within a fifteen minute drive of downtown Ottawa and two hours from Montreal.

Silence is expected but never demanded as soothing music competes with the sound of the cool outdoor shower that appears to come out of an overhanging rock.

The core experience, in true nordic fashion, starts with a maximum 10 minute visit to either the steam room (first timers may need less time) or the dry heat room where it's best to stretch out and relax on the wooden benches.

Next, participants plunge themselves into cold water to rid the body of the toxins released in the heat sessions. This is best accomplished by walking quickly through the waterfall/ cold pool area and gradually spending more time there to completely refresh the body.

The final stage demands 15 to 20 minutes of relaxation either in the warm pools, sunning chairs, hammocks or sitting around the outdoor fire pits. For cool, rainy days there are gazebos with a firepit in the center. The whole process can be repeated endlessly.

Allow at least two hours for a visit though the whole experience is so addictive a full day visit is not unreasonable. The good and very reasonable cafe is only open to spa visitors. Seating is both indoors and out and most single or multi visit packages starting from $55.00 per day include food/drink options.
